Sure, exercise is its own reward, but why not enjoy the incredible scenery of Garden of the Gods while you’re at it? While you can run, hike, and bike any time you want, here is a list of the top races held at Garden of the Gods.
Garden of the Gods 10 Mile and 5k
Like the name implies, there are 10 mile and 5km courses. Held annually in June, this is one of the biggest road races in Colorado Springs. Last year, over 1,000 people competed in the 10 mile race and hundreds more ran in the 5k. This year is sure to be extra special, as 2016 will mark the 40th time this race has been held. Start training now!
Take Five in the Garden
Take Five in the Garden, part of the Colorado Springs Grand Prix of Running, offers 5 mile and 5km courses. The race is held in May each year, which means it’s the perfect tune-up if you also have the aforementioned Garden of the Gods 10 mile in your future.
Race for the Cure
While not technically a race, you don’t want to miss this event. More than 3,500 people participated last year to help raise money for the Susan G. Komen organization. There is a 5k walk/run and a Family Walk that is less than a mile. Put this one on your calendar for September and feel good about getting exercise and helping a great cause!
Gear up now for the 22nd annual Starlight Spectacular, which will be held on June 18, 2016. This recreational night-time bike ride starts at Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center, winds through Colorado Springs and Old Colorado City, and then finishes back in the Garden. Pick your course, ranging from 14 to 22 miles, and ride into the night!
One of the newest additions to the great lineup of races in Garden of the Gods is the Lemonade Brigade. This 5k run and walk benefits foster children through an organization called Hope & Home. My wife and I participated in the walk with our newborn daughter last year, so I can personally attest to the fact that this is a fun, family friendly event. Sign up now for this year’s race, which is set for May 14, 2016. See you there!
